About
Human-led. A named reviewer tests each chatbot by hand, inside the chat window, by keyboard and with a screen reader, and checks its answers against the organization's official sources. A person on the customer's team approves every finding. Automated checks support the reviewer; they do not replace the reviewer. So every student can keep learning.
What we are, and what we are not
We are a human-led accessibility and answer accuracy check for public AI chatbots, with a dated evidence report a person approves.
- We are not a legal service. Nothing here is legal advice.
- We are not a certifier. We do not certify anything.
- We are not an overlay. We do not change your site.
- We are not AI-only. A named reviewer tests by hand.
- We do not check PDFs or documents yet.
How we test
- Automated checks. The free automated scan runs automated checks on the page that hosts the chatbot, with no reviewer. It does not open the chat window. It runs a subset of automated rules and does not cover every success criterion.
- Reviewer testing. A named reviewer tests inside the chat window by keyboard and screen reader and writes up each finding.
- Answer accuracy. A reviewer checks a set of the chatbot's answers against the organization's official sources.
A person on the customer's team approves every finding before it goes in the dated evidence report.
Standards
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the technical standard in the ADA Title II web rule (ADA.gov fact sheet).
- Deadlines: April 26, 2027 for public entities serving 50,000 or more people; April 26, 2028 for smaller entities and special district governments.
- WCAG 2.2 AA is a voluntary best practice unless a contract requires it.
General information, not legal advice.
What AI cannot reliably determine
- Whether a chatbot's answer is correct for a specific organization, without that organization's official sources.
- Whether a chat window works for a person using a keyboard or a screen reader. A person has to try it.
- Whether an organization meets its legal obligations. That is a question for its counsel.
- Every accessibility issue. The W3C says tools cannot check everything and human judgment is required (W3C: Selecting web accessibility evaluation tools).
Important clarifications
- Not legal advice.
- No certification. We do not certify a site, a chatbot or an organization.
- A report is evidence for your records. It is not audit ready proof, and automated checks cannot find every issue.
Terminology
- ADA Title II
- The part of the Americans with Disabilities Act that covers state and local governments, including public colleges, school districts, cities and counties.
- WCAG 2.1 AA
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA. The technical standard the Title II web rule adopts.
- Hosting page
- The web page that loads the chatbot. Automated checks run against this page.
- Chat window
- The panel where a person types a question and reads the answer. It often opens only after a click.
- Named reviewer
- The person who tests the chatbot by hand and writes up each finding.
- Free automated scan
- A self-serve tool that runs automated checks on the hosting page. It has no reviewer.
- Reviewed check
- The paid service: automated checks, the reviewer's hand testing, a reviewed answer accuracy check, and your approval of every finding.
- On-Site agent
- The agent delivered as a tar file you run behind your firewall. Accessibility domain wisdom for it is coming.
- Overlay
- A script that changes a page as it loads. We do not sell one.
